It’s July 5th, and in Oregon, that means that summer is finally here! We can get our grills out and start cooking burgers. Have you ever heard of a marinated burger? I haven’t. When I saw this recipe from Taste of the South, I thought it was very strange! However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that if anything would soak up a marinade, it would be a patty of ground meat. I tried it out and what I ended up with was a juicy, flavorful burger!! This is very easy and well worth your time to marinate your burgers. Try it out. If I can do it, so can you!
Start out with two pounds of 80/20 ground beef. I like to use leaner ground beef in casseroles, but with burgers on the grill, 80/20 is the best choice so your burgers won’t dry out. Shape the beef into six patties that are each about one inch thick. Place them in a resealable plastic bag or in a 9×13 dish.

Whisk together white wine, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, onion and garlic.
Pour mixture over patties and refrigerate for eight hours, flipping once halfway through.

Remove patties from the refrigerator and bring to room temperature before putting them on the grill. Cook them on a medium-high grill until they have reached your desired doneness. The original recipe suggests four minutes per side, but on our grill that was not long enough. I cooked them for about eight minutes per side.

Serve on buns with your favorite toppings. I like mayo, ketchup, lettuce and pickles, but you could add bacon, tomatoes, onion or even jalapenos if that’s what you prefer. No matter what toppings you choose, this burger will be delicious!
